Replace components: Why get component symbols twisted sometimes?
The item "Replace components..." in menu "Components" replaces a component completely by a different one. The same happens if you click button [Change value or type] in the Change Symbols dialog. The new component can be chosen freely and its symbol might look quite different from the old one. TARGET tries to place the new symbol as well as possible.

It is easier for TARGET if the symbol indicates rotation and mirroring (from V17.8.0.7). Parts placed with older versions show a question mark here:

With these old components, TARGET tries to detect rotation and mirroring by comparing the position of the connections. That doesn't always work and a symbol sometimes looks a little torn to shreds. TARGET places at least the connections to the old locations so that the component is electrically connected. You may then have to delete the component completely and insert the new one by hand or you need to adjust the oblique "painting" of the symbol. For doing so you need to switch off the function of "Select entire component" .

With new symbols rotation or the state of being mirrored is remarked correctly. Then TARGET fits in the new symbol in the correct orientation. However, if the new symbol was created differently in the database, this can lead to torn symbols again.

It is therefore best if the new symbol has exactly the same structure as the replaced symbol.
