Can I place a translucent image e.g. JPG or BMP over the board layout?
Sometimes one wishes to place a photo or any image of an existing board like a default over the layout in order to arrange parts and tracks according to the image. This is what we call: "Reverse Engineering".

The easiest is to place the image underneath the PCB Layout. In menü "Actions" for this purpose there is menu item "Actions/Reverse Engineering/Insert image to outline". Best is to place the image on to the lowest layer which is layer 0, Area bottom.

You can also underlay images of top and bottom of your board at the same time, with different transparencies. So you can see at the same time what happens on the underside and top of your board and trace the structures accordingly. This is also possible for inner layers. To do this, you need X-ray images of your circuit board showing the inner layers. Sounds unusual, but follows the same principle.
