Theme: Package, component in PCB
I want to use a different package, e.g. SO-16 instead of DIL-16
Each component in the database has a package proposal, e.g. DIL-16. If you want to use a different package, e.g. SO-16, then there are two possibilities:
1. Quick solution
If the package has already been inserted into the layout, delete the package (and only the package). In the layout view, tap the insert key [Ins] on the keyboard. The list of components that have not yet been assigned to a package appears. At the bottom of the dialog you can click "Use different package":

After clicking [ OK ] the "Select package" dialog opens. Now select the desired other package and place it. With this method, you are responsible for checking the pin-pad assignment. It may also be necessary to adjust order numbers and other properties of the component.
2. Clean solution
Replace the component completely. Delete it from the schematic and from the layout. Then place the new component to the same position. In schematic and in the layout. The signal paths in the schematic remain stationary, so that you do not have to reconnect anything. In the layout you have to adjust the traces accordingly.
For replacement, you also might use the "Replace component" item in the "Components" menu (schematic view). This allows several components to be exchanged automatically.
